Getting Comfortable…

I’ve been trying to find a place and way to get comfortable with my computer(s). A key point in this is that I’m short.

I have a desktop computer that I have hooked up to a monitor and a printer and sitting at/on a computer desk. I’ve spent way too much money trying to find a chair that is comfortable with the desk. If I get one with arms they are too high for the keyboard tray and so I’m stuck

leaning forward on the edge of the chair trying to type and see the screen. I had one with no arm that solved this problem except it wasn’t very comfortable to begin with. It’s broke recently so I’ve sent it on its way.

I got a laptop a couple years ago and while you would think that would make it easier to get comfortable, well, not always. I wanted to be able to work at a desk and the one the desktop is on it the wrong height in so many ways. I even tried putting it on bricks to get it to work with my chair. I got an arts and crafts table and it works pretty good. It works much better since I got the new IKEA chair. That makes a huge difference. I still have a problem with the desk though. The room I have it sitting in is a west facing room. and on top of that, it faces the window that has mini blinds. It’s great in the morning. In the afternoon, though, when I’m usually in there, the sun comes in, directly in my eyes. I may need to get additional coverings for this window. I could move things but I ahve 2 completely full six foot bookshelves and I have not desire to move them.

So with the laptop, you would think I would just pick up and go to a more comfortable spot. Yeah. I’ve tried the kitchen table. It helps when I’m looking things up in books, which if I’m working on a website, I’m doing that. Still the table’s a little high and then there’s no room to eat at the table. Ok, I know who does that any more?

I’ve tried the couch. That can get very cozy. I’m just not so sure it’s good for my posture as I tend to slouch there, and I really need a place for the mouse. I’ve got this great chair from IKEA, it’s a Poang (spelling is close). I’ve even got the footstool to go with it. I’m trying this out for now. I think it may be just the thing. I just don’t like that the place looks so sloppy when I’m computing in the living room.

Oh well, I suppose if I’m going to get more done on the comptuer I really need to figure out where I’m going to be the most comfortable. I have so many things to do on the computer that I can’t really afford to not find a comfy spot to compute. The added bonus of computing in the living room is that I can keep an eye on the hurricanes. And that is very important this year.

Cheers
