• Quick Update on My Games Status

Here’s the thing. I, like a lot of people, have limited time to play games, though I enjoy them. Because of the limited time I don’t have a lot of patience for letting a game mature. Or letting for devs to work out the bugs and things like that. Now, if it’s a really good game that really catches me and pulls me in, then I can be patient. But if it doesn’t then I don’t give it a lot of attention. I also find that if it takes too long to do something in the game, I lose interest as well. I know for people that are really into their games and really dedicated, I am one of the noobs they do not want to see. Or I would be if I whined about it in chat, which I don’t.

With that little introduction it will probably not come as a surprise to you that I have chosen to abandon ArcheAge. I have uninstalled it from my computer and I am just not going to bother. I did ready a nice article at Massively where they interviewed Trion about Hack Shield. Which you may recall I was unhappy about it being on my machine. Trion provided an explanation that I could understand and accept. I still find Hack Shield an annoyance and I will now have to go ‘hack’ it’s supposedly innocuous files from my machine.

World of Warcraft and Warlords of Draenor beta. Ok I’m still doing this. I did finally get to the garrison thing in WoD. I think it will be cool when starting it at 90. Starting it at 100 is a little challenging as all the quests to go to different places that open up with levels are available so I’m not entirely sure whether I’m coming or going. But I think it is going to be fun when starting them as they are meant to be. So that’s a good thing. And sadly, or not, I did not do much with Brewfest this year and I wasn’t on long enough yesterday to check if Hallows End has started. I did log in and spend the few Valor Points I had before they go away on Tuesday with the new patch.

I got on Perpetuum last week and had a good time. I found out that I was using the wrong weapons and armor for the type of robot I use and for the level of robot control that I have. So I started the process of changing that out. Think that’s going to mean I will want to change up what I can make but I’m not too worried about that right now. I just need to get some better gear.

Isn’t that always the case. I think a lot of our time in various games is spent in getting better gear. Better weapons, better armor, higher level mats. Oh well. Hopefully we enjoy the story and the scenery along the way.

So that’s my wrap up for the week or so. I’ve got a few other things that I played, started or tried over the summer and I’ll get to a point I can give you a bit of a run down on some of them. Some are old friends and some are potentially obscure things but hey, you never know when that buried dusty game turns out to be a gem. And though they did dig up a bunch of E.T. Nintendo cartridges, this is not one of the games I was ever into.

  • WoW…WoD

I am very pleased that I got an invite for World of Warcraft’s Warlords of Draenor beta. I did have to go check my battle.net account first to make sure the email was legitimate. Happily, it was ans I proceeded to download it and log in.

I chose to make a level 100 Warlock since my main is a Warlock. I  figured this way I would have some idea of what things were going to be like for me. Which for the most part, it’s not bad.

I can’t say I have done a lot in the beta, at least not yet. I’ve done some questing in a couple of the zones and that has been fine. I’ve found a few of the random treasure caches. Those I like. They encourage curiosity. “Oh look, shiny. Let me click on it.” Some of them come with unexpected surprises. That’s fun.

I have not gotten to the one thing that seems to be the big cool thing in this expansion. Garrisons. I have some garrison supplies. These were obtained either as loot or as quest rewards. I don’t know what to do with them yet.

I will have to make a point of trying out the garrisons. Hopefully I will get to that sometime this week.

For the most part I’m pretty comfortable with the changes in the expansion. At least what I have seen so far. There are only two things that I am not sure about. Probably because of starting at 100, I could not tell which way I was supposed to go. I wandered around a bit at first, until I found a flight path. The other thing I’m not entirely happy about are the changes to my spells. I don’t have as many and that feels odd. And the one that lets me cast certain spells while moving, where previously (meaning now) this was passive and required no additional action on my part, now it appears to require I click it first. That’s annoying. To be fair, it might have to do with a glyph I have on my main, I haven’t checked. If not, it just seems like more clicks. Maybe it is to make up for not having as many spells to click.

Overall, I think I’m going to like Warlords of Draenor. And since the release date has been announced and is now only a month and a half away, I guess it’s time to pre-order.

Now, who do I boost to 90?

  • Perpetuum…Again.

A few years ago, when Perpetuum first launched I gave it a try. I was interested in getting into an MMO early in it’s launch because I have noticed or at least perceive a difference in success in game for those who started it early. I suppose you could call it a bit of a head start. And it’s a sci-fi MMO.

I liked the game well enough at the time I just wasn’t interested in another subscription and didn’t feel I had time to really devote to learning the game. There was, and still is, a good bit to be learning to really succeed in Perpetuum.

Fast forward ahead a few years and the makers of Perpetuum decide to sell the game for a one time fee and drop the subscription. At $30 for the game this seemed like a good deal to me. So I went for it. That was this Spring.

At first it looked like things were going to go well. I got randomly hooked up with a corporations that I thought was going to be a good move. It turned out to not be a very good fit. Leaving wouldn’t have been too bad except a bug prevented me from being able to leave on my own and skulk off into the ether. I had to have someone kick me fout of the corporation. This lead to some unpleasantness that left a bad feeling for me.

I decided I would freelance for a time and try to amass some funds and maybe some better experience point disbursement or something like that. The best laid plans and lifed tend to collide and these things don’t always go as planned. I haven’t touched Perpetuum for most of the summer. I have logged in a couple of times to check on my accumulated experience points but that has been it.

I was doing this log in and check the other day, with even the intent to do some character maintenance. While I was trying to decide where to distribute points I got a private message. This message lead to a squad invite, a rat hunting trip, some good information, a good time and a new corporation for me. Oh and about 3 more hours of game time than I originally intended.

The approach of the corporation admin was a good one. Chat someone up a bit. Invite them to Team Speack for a bit. See how things go and then a corporation invite. It was fun. It’s probably the most fun I have had yet in Perpetuum. I have hopes for being part of this corporation. The have a real life first rule and have been known to ban people for an hour or two to get their homework or other stuff done. As busy as I get I really hope this holds true and I will get to be a real part of things when I can be on instead of just another corp member hanging out on the edges. So if it goes well, you may be reading more about this sci-fi MMO called Perpetuum.

  • ArcheAge – I’m Not Feeling It

I’ve been wanting to post my feelings about ArcheAge which just recently went live here in the US thanks to Trion Worlds efforts to port the Asian game to something the US would play. I was wanting to spend a little more time in the game before making this post. Alas, things have been a little busy for me and nearly every time I make an effort to get into the game, I find that right now it is taking too much of my limited time just to get into the game. So I haven’t been able to get a good impression of the game now that it is live. Unfortunately, because of this, I find my enthusiasm for ArcheAge just isn’t there.

I did play for a few hours during the open beta weekend. I was able to log into a server with little to no trouble. I created a character and got started. I did manage to make it far enough along to obtain my first mount so I didn’t have to walk everywhere. I found many of the early level mobs even easier than some other games I’ve played so I didn’t spend any time figuring out how to heal myself, though I did have to repair some armor.

To be fair to the game, there are a lot of things that it is offering that look really fun and that is what even interested me in it in the first place. When I got into the game and started working through it, well I was not as excited. The graphics are fine and I don’t even mind all the cut scenes. I don’t particularly like that it takes a significant time to load. And I am not too keen on server queues in the 3500 to 4500 range. The nights I tried to get on that the queues were like that, I just abandoned things.

There is one other thing I do not like. When the software installed it installed something called HackShield Pro for Online Game. Really? I didn’t even get a choice in installing this stuff. I find it suspicious. I went looking for a readme file on it as I was writing this and I could not find one. And I have noticed, since installing the live version of ArcheAge, instead of the Beta, that the Glyph launcher keeps forgetting that I am still accessing my Trion account from the same computer I have been using for the last 2 years. Yes, I recognize I can check the little box that says remember me. Again, really?

But these are not complaints about game play.

Regarding the game play of ArcheAge, it was ok. There was nothing about it that I found frustrating. And there was nothing about it that I thought was just really great. It was much like so many other games out there. It seems like it might be a bit on the grindy side. Which is saying something since I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 more recently and that is the complaint a lot of people have about that game. That assessment comes before I’ve even reached level 20. So, you can be the judge as to what that means for game play.

Obviously, my opinion is not shared by everyone. There are a lot of people enjoying ArcheAge as I type this. I just tried to log on and all but one server is sitting in queue status and the one that isn’t is at high. So there are a lot of people playing it, having fun, and exploring the game. And I won’t uninstall it yet. I will give it a little time for the queues to level off and Trion the decide how many servers they need and all that. Then I may give it another try. And hopefully be able to write a more analytical post about it.

For right now though, I’m not feeling it when it comes to ArcheAge.

  • More Changes, as Always

I have been working on finding a nice theme for this site. I think I have found one that offers a lot of flexibility. There are a couple of things I would like to adjust but can live with it for now. There are two I like so things might swing back and forth for a bit until I decide which is best.

Along with the theme change, I am working on a new header image. I am reworking the Suguay Productions logo to update it a little. When I get it finished I’ll post it in the header image area.

I’ve also set myself up with Akismet so you may find comments being available for some posts in the future. As always, be nice. If you must criticize be constructive.

I’ve added a few more cool plugins to make the site a bit more robust. I hope.

Some things that are on my To Do list for the site include; an about page, a Contacts page, a more games posts, and new subjects as well, and I’ve learned a bunch of stuff about WordPress so I’ll need to add some things there. That’s just a start. It’s all coming. Just not in the next 10 minutes so check back often to find out what’s new and see the cool changes.
